Okay, this Spider-Man news has gone on long enough. It's been a giant back and fourth on rumors and speculation that Spider-Man is staying at Sony. No he is going back to Marvel Studios for future Avengers movies. Then no he will be co-owned by both companies. Well just after yesterday's rumor by Latino-Review that Spider-Man has indeed returned to Marvel....Sony Pictures Brazil has posted a Sinister Six teaser image that reads in Portuguese “We Have Plans For You…. #SpiderMan”

Now while it seems that Spider-Man may be staying at Sony Pictures it could be entirely possible that Marvel/Sony have come to a deal that would allow a Sinister Six movie to still progress as scheduled before him appearing in Avengers: Infinity War.Of course that is pure speculation based on a fans dream that The Avengers and Spider-Man will appear on screen together...

Today in Dave of Latino-Review's spoiler filled column he revealed that the deal between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures seems to have gone through to allow Spider-Man to appear in Avengers: Infinity War Part I. He also goes onto reveal some massive spoilers on what is to become of Marvel's big three Captain America, Thor and Iron Man before the massive intergalactic battle with Thanos.

According to their sources towards the end of Captain America: Civil War it seems Steve Rogers will indeed be killed off as seen in the climax of the Civil War comic story arc "Death of Captain America". It will be at the hands of Crossbones () and will be during the feud between Rogers and Tony Stark after Stark finds out it was Bucky who killed his planets as confirmed in Captain America: The Winter Solider. They go onto claim somehow Iron Man will end up in space but is extremely vague on this. Remember Tony Stark does join the Guardians of the Galaxy in the comics so this might be how the Guardians warn The Avengers about Thanos since remember...they have no idea he even exists yet. Lastly, in Thor: Ragnarok many Asgardians will die and this will lead to Thor (Chris Hemsworth) being sent to a "Galactic Prison" of sorts. Is this him finally being sent to Valhalla? And just like that the top three Marvel characters will be out of Avengers: Infinity War Part I.

Who will then defend earth from Thanos? Apparently the "New" Avengers may end up being lead by Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) himself along with Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman). Others on the team include Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver (Elizabeth Olsen & Aaron Taylor-Johnson), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), The Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) and Iron Fist (TBA). New additions also include Captain Marvel (TBA) and Spider-Man (TBA) will also play a large part as well. Lastly, they add the any of the Guardians of the Galaxy and Inhumans could also play a part in the battle. Let's just hope Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) gets to shine in the films once again without being forced to add any of the other characters from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D into the movies.

None of the original Avengers from the first two phases will have a part in Infinity War Part I because they will return for Infinity War Part II.This will be Marvel's first test to see if these new characters can lead the company into future Phases without the main Avengers appearing.

It's January 2015 and you Spider-Man fans know what that means. Ever since the infamous Sony Hack in late November many secrets from the company was revealed to the world. Unfortunately it came with a price for the employees of the company but that isn't what we are here to talk about. The good news for film fans was the revelation that Marvel and Sony had been talking for a while to have Spider-Man crossover into the Marvel Cinematic Universe starting in Captain America: Civil War. This was before the hack and the two company's couldn't come to an agreement...then the hack happened which left Sony losing millions of dollars per day and without a play against Marvel.This lead to Sony calling for a "Spidey Summit" to take place this month to figure out what to do with their most profitable character Spider-Man. Will they forge forward with their cinematic universe and forget Marvel all together or will they cave and co-own the character alongside Marvel Studios guidance?


Now today the day of reckoning has come according to Dave of Latino-Review the deal has been finalized. Spider-Man is set to appear in The Avengers: Infinity War Part I & II in 2018 & 2019. Unfortunately for you Andrew Garfield fans he will not be returning to the project. Marvel Studios will use a brand new young actor for the role of Peter Parker. If the rumors are also true the character will be back in High School but won't focus to much on the love stories like the past two franchises did.


The fan favorite top picks for a new Peter Parker include Perks of Being a Wallflower star Logan Lerman or Maze Runner star Dylan O'brien amongst others. This of course needs to be kept into prospective until Marvel and Sony jointly announce Spider-Man is actually back....

While the fate of web-slinger known as Spider-Man still remains unclear since the Sony Hack some new information has debuted regarding Sony's original plan with the character. A casting call for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 went out from Bill Beckman Casting about the film.

Now while on the main site we couldn't find an exact date when this casting call went out a similar casting call was posted on that websites Facebook which indicate that the film could start filming as early as March 2015 in Atlanta, GA.

This also shows that the casting call was in November which was right before the infamous Sony Hack. Which revealed that Sony may end up selling the rights back to Marvel Studios after the "Spidey Summit" later this month. Of course it is still entirely possible that Sony decline to team-up with Marvel and forge ahead with their current plans in The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and Sinister Six films. Sony could also push back the shooting for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 but keep the location in Atlanta, GA.

Over the last several weeks we have gotten word through the infamous Sony Hack that Sony and Marvel came close to a deal that would allow Spider-Man to finally crossover into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and appear in Captain America: Civil War. Well of course talks broke down and the "shipped sailed" on that idea with Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) assuming that lead role. Well Marvel and Sony are still apparently in discussions to have Spider-Man appear in the MCU eventually and Marvel has just the movie for him. According to Val Broeksmit (via Comic Book Movie) who dug through more Sony emails found that Andrew Gumpert the President of Worldwide Business and Operations for Columbia Pictures (Subsidiary of Sony Pictures) told Sony Pictures chairman Amy Pascal if the deal goes through with Marvel. Marvel Studios wouldn't want the next Marvel/Sony Spider-Man film to be a continuation of Civil War but be a teenage superhero who lives in the aftermath. That there will be two sides for all superheros. In the purposed Civil War cameo it would have Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) giving Peter Parker the infamous Iron Spider suit seen in the Civil War comic. He would also meet Black Widow (Scarlett Johannson) as well as Captain America (Chris Evans) himself.

He also goes onto mention that Marvel wants to have a solo flick out by 2019 with Spider-Man having a semi-major role in The Avengers: Infinity War Part's I & II in 2018 and 2019 specifically. In a way this is a lot like how The CW introduced Flash into the Arrow-verse. First letting him appear on Arrow as a "back door pilot" before debuting in his own show a year later. This is how Marvel seems to be treating their introduction to Peter Parker. First appearing in Civil War and Infinity War before getting his own film a year later.

All will be known come January when Marvel and Sony hold a meeting regarding this Spider-Man deal. It may actually come to pass with Sony Pictures losing tens of millions of dollars per day since the initial hack as well as an extra $75 Million after cancelling all plans to release The Interview starring Seth Rogen and James Franco.

Almost everything we heard regarding Spider-Man showing up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been a bunch of "what of, could of" situations. Given that word is that talks broke down in late October early November about the character showing up in Captain America: Civil War. We also got word that Sony Pictures is planning on holding a "Spidey Summit" in January to figure out what they even want to do with the character from here on out. There have been talks of Spider-Man going back to Marvel or an adult Spider-Man reboot with Andrew Garfield allegedly fired.

Well now a scoop coming from Screen Gonzo claims to have some more details on this Spidey Summit. It will indeed include Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige as well as Sony head Amy Pascal at Pinewood Studios. Apparently if the deal goes through Marvel is seriously considering on using their famous post-credit stingers to fully set up Spider-Man for Avengers: Infinity War.  But who will be directing Avengers: Infinity War? That would be Anthony and Joe Russo. The Russo Brothers already revealed to Sony head Amy Pascal that they would like to produce a Spider-Man film. But if Marvel regains the rights they are Marvel's top pick to write and direct the new trilogy of Spider-Man films after Avengers: Infinity War. The stinger could be in Avengers: Age of Ultron with pick-ups starting soon but most likely Captain America: Civil War.

Lastly, Kevin Feige has made it clear he wants longtime Spider-Man producer and former boss Avi Arad out of the new Marvel Spider-Man films. Ask any movie going nerd what the problem with the Spider-Man films are and they will all point to Avi Arad.

All these concerns were brought up in Amy Pascals leaked memo to herself regarding Avi Arad, The Russos and creative control. It will all finally be answered in January with some type of an announcement as early as February but definitely before Avengers: Age of Ultron hits in May. But keep in mind it's entirely possible Sony rejects everything and moves forward with their own Spider-Verse plans.

The Sony Hack gifts keep coming. Recently we have seen leaked emails from not just Sony but involving superhero films from other studios as well. Like The Russo Brothers taking over directing duties on The Avengers films at Marvel. As well as Simon Kinberg confirming he is doing an X-Men/Fantastic Four crossover...well now it's Warner Brothers turn. In an email on October 21st Columbia Pictures co-president Micheal De Luca reveals to Sony head Amy Pascal that Mud director Jeff Nichols is apparently being looked at to helm Aquaman for Warner Brothers starring Jason Momoa as the King of the Seven Seas (via The Daily Beast) 

The co-President goes onto reveal that 22 Jump Street & The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord & Chris Miller will direct The Amazing Spider-Man 3 if Sony doesn't make the deal with Marvel come January and reboot the character again.

Everyday a new piece of information leaks from the Sony Hack regarding not just James Bond and Ghostbusters but their crown jewel Spider-Man. Most of it was between Marvel and Sony considering bringing a young teenage Spider-Man into Captain America; Civil War which had talks break down in early November. Now while it's still a very real possibility Sony also has a contingency plan in case they reject Marvel's deal come January at the Spidey Summit. Sony's plan is to once again reboot the entire character but not go do the origin but have him as an adult. This idea comes from Jeff Robinov to Sony head Amy Pascal (via The Daily Beast) on the option of keeping Spider-Man and making him an adult:

"In the next Spider-Man movies, we can’t go back to his origin story. Think of the 25 films in the James Bond franchise; just because a new creative team comes aboard, and breathes new life into a classic property, doesn’t mean the origin story has to be retold.To argue that there’s plenty of other superhero movies with levity in the marketplace, so why make more Spider-Man movies, would be akin to saying there’s no room for James Bond films because of all the espionage films and franchises that have come out over the years. There will always be room for this beloved, iconic hero."

He goes onto mention the story would involve Kraven the Hunter and an adult Spider-Man:
 He then goes onto list a "wish list" of directors he would like see tackle this Spider-Man movie exclusively for Sony:


This comes off the recent emails which have essentially fired star Andrew Garfield from the series after his comments about the company getting to involved with The Amazing Spider-Man 2. But who could possibly play an adult web-slinger? Well in a separate email The Daily Beast uncovered Amy Pascal reveals that star Ryan Gosling is very eager in being in a Sony pictures movie for Pascal after turning down Doctor Strange at Marvel and Suicide Squad for DC. She goes onto specifically mention Sinister Six as a possible start for the actor but didn't mention in what role...maybe Spider-Man Who is rumored to team up with the Sinister Six to take down Venom.

This unfortunate Sony hack seems to be the gift that keeps on giving. Mashable seems to have also gotten some leaked Sony emails between Sony Pictures head Amy Pascal and producer Matt Tolmach questioning how Spider-Man could have fit into Captain America: Civil War:

"I love introducing PP [Peter Parker] in Cap but I know it comes with so many things since we won't give them what they want what will we give them? We can say it's a cameo but I'll bet it's more and will involve some of his world and it will be peter and spidey right,"

This of course is referring to Marvel wanting creative control of one of their most beloved and profitable characters since his introduction in the comics.  Amy Pascal also goes onto write a memo to herself on some logistical issues and questions she would need to ask Marvel Studios and Sony for this to work:

"If we have Spider-Man in Cap 3 [Civil War], What is our fee and our back end? [We would] need script approval, casting approval of Spider-Man and Aunt May and consultation of Mays house in Queens [New York] and any other Spiderman locations we may need in future movies. Also approval of new Spider-Man costume.  How long is he is the movie? How closely does it follow the Civil War story line? Does the world find out who Spider-Man is? Are there any other characters from the Spider-Man universe they are using? Can we use one of the Marvel characters in our future Spider-Man movies not produced by Marvel? Can we use Captain America to set up Sinister Six? Can Drew [Goddard] work with The Russo Brothers to get this done? Are we renting him out?"

 She goes onto to ask other question regarding a new director and current producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach:

Would we have to dismantle Sinister Six?Can Drew Goddard write the Spider-Man original? Who would direct the Spider-Man movie? What do we do with Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad? They can not put Spidey in future Spider-Man movies or team ups. We need to keep animation rights for a theatrical release Spider-man movie to be directed by Lord and Miller. We need to be able to make Spider-Man movies after this movie we need to be able to make the girl team up movie. Is it possible to put Spidey in worlds without other characters once he is with Iron Man and Captain America? Can we have him in Cap 3 and then 6 months later in Sinister Six? We get to make future movies with our characters and theirs in a collaborative way but we dont need their approval.Marvel produces a bunch of Spider-Man movies for Sony the way they do for Disney....all spiderman dominant movie are financed and marketed by us even though Disney will have the merch on everything. We can put the Marvel and even Disney logo on ours if we can put Sony on theirs.

The site also goes onto reveal that back several months ago before talks even began with Marvel Sony became quite displeased with their star Andrew Garfield after his comments that the producers and company sort of ruined The Amazing Spider-Man 2. He also apparently stood of Sony CEO Kaz Hirai at a fundraiser which allegedly got himself fired from future Spider-Man movies:

"His absence (with less than an hour of notice) was seen as an affront and slight by the company's Tokyo bosses,"

 Then that's when we had heard The Amazing Spider-Man 3 was being pushed back to 2018 and a soft-reboot with a new actor may happen with The Sinister Six. All because of his comments about the company. Then it seemed that's when Sony and Marvel began talks about once again rebooting the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since it seemed Garfield was out of the picture anyway.

The leaked emails between Marvel and Sony keep getting better or worse depending on which side of the argument you are on. Overtice Brazil has unearthed emails between Captain America: The Winter Solider directors Anthony and Joe Russo to Sony head Amy Pascal in which they also asked for Spider-Man to appear in their next film Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Of course the talks broke down over creative control until recently. Then on November The Russo's Brothers revealed that they would be taking over directing duties from Joss Whedon in Avengers: Infinity War Parts 1 and 2. But they reassure her their production company Bullitt will still help produce the Sony film The Gray Man.

They then go onto ask if they could produce the Spider-Man films (Unknown if this is for Marvel/Sony or just Sony) through their production company. And mention that it would be a difficult talk to basically kick current producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach out but one she should consider. Amy Pascal never got back to them on that offer but a week later their systems were hacked so it's possible she never had the time during the chaos. Lastly, the site goes onto mention how producer Avi Arad has begged Pascal to greenlight the Venom spin-off as well as Motion Picture Group head Jeff Robinov warning her not to make a deal with Marvel over Spider-Man's rights...

It has yet to be announced that the Russo's will direct the next installment of the Avenger series from Joss Whedon but let's at least hope Whedon stays on as a writer....

Several days ago a massive Sony hack occurred that leaked a multitude of personal data, files, emails and salary earnings from Sony Entertainment. One of the emails was between Sony and Disney on the extremely small possibility in using Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War. Which for nerds this is the holy grail of news since Spider-Man hasn't been with Marvel since the 1990's. Unfortunately talks broke down on "creative control" of the character and Marvel moved forward with their Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) version of the Civil War story in place of Spider-Man.

Now it seems Sony Japan the main corporation is furious with Sony Pictures and their handling of their multimillion dollar tentpole in the Spider-Man franchise. They are keeping this supposed deal with Marvel on the table until January to hold a "Spidey Summit" that will figure out what to even do with the character. One is keep on making spin-offs like The Sinister Six and Venom films like previously announced. Another would be make a deal with Marvel in a 60/40 split that would indeed give Marvel creative control of the character but Sony keeps distribution with financing coming from Disney.

Latino-Review has since posted some tidbits on Marvel's contingency plan if they indeed retain partial rights of the characters alongside Sony. First off Andrew Garfield who is by far the best Peter Parker we have seen  on screen will indeed be out. It's unfortunate but no surprise given Marvel wants a fresh start with the character. Spider-Man will not have a role in Captain America: Civil War because the script is already completed with Black Panther taking up the "Spider-Man" role that we saw in the comics. That doesn't mean a Peter Parker cameo can't happen but don't expect anything major. Lastly, Marvel wants to focus on the idea of a teenage superhero again but NOT Spider-Man's origin story. He will have already by the time of their Spider-Man film have already been the web slinger for a while. It's because over the course of 5 films (Webb's and Raimi's) a love story has been the focus of the films. This time it will be more on the difficulties of leading a double life as a teenager and superhero with a love story as a side-plot.

Again, this is just a contingency plan for Marvel if they regain rights to the character...

Last night an email leaked at the hands of a hacking group known as the #GOP that revealed some new information of Sony Pictures Spider-Man franchise. Apparently towards the end of October Sony and Disney were discussing a possibility that would allow Spider-Man to appear in Captain America: Civil War but Sony would keep creative control in a new MCU trilogy of the character. So obviously it sounded like talks broke down given that Marvel obviously would like creative control in their Marvel universe and not the other way around.

Well, now Latino-Review has gotten a little bit more information on this back and forth negotiations between the two company's. Apparently Sony Japan is furious at this email leak scandal and the leadership over at their subsidiary Sony Pictures. That they are actually going to keep Marvel negotiations on the table and may force Sony Pictures to make a deal with Marvel so they can get financing and distribution but Marvel gets creative control. A 60/40 split of the web slinger. Sony Japan are the ones who flip the bill when it comes to the salary's of the Sony executives:

"Sony Japan thinks the Marvel deal for Spider-Man is still on the table and they want to renegotiate as a return to quality, the 60/40 split is can be negotiated and Sony Entertainment’s October hard-line stance of wanting creative control is now mostly moot in the eyes of the higher-ups."

 It's entirely possible this renegotiation can happen as early as next month when Sony holds a "Spidey Summit" to figure out what they will do with their character and the spin-odds that hang in the balance.This would explain why we have heard next to nothing on the next film in the franchise Sinister Six because Sony may actually be holding off to figure everything else out. It's also entirely possible Marvel may take Sinister Six director Drew Goddard (Who worked on Daredevil for Marvel) and bring him on to direct the new Spider-Man films set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unfortunately, it's unlikely Marvel would bring star Andrew Garfield back in the new trilogy even though everyone agrees he is the best Peter Parker we have seen on screen.

If Marvel does by some miracle get Spider-Man back don't expect to see him before Avengers: Infinity War. At least nothing more than a cool cameo...Lest we forget a couple months ago Badass Digest got word that Sinister Six may actually be a soft reboot of the character teaming up with the Sinister Six like The Dirty Dozen but with a new actor. Marvel could take this concept for their Spider-Man instead of once again doing his origin story.

For the past couple weeks a slew of importation has leaked from the departments over at Sony Pictures from a a group of hackers called #GOP. Some of the documents included the leak of several Sony films including Fury and Annie. As well as salary and earning readings for top Sony executives. Of course many nerds joked "Wouldn't it be great if they hacked the Spider-Man rights back over to Marvel" well something like that actually kinda happened!

The Wall Street Journal got emails between Sony's motion picture chief Amy Pascal and Disney CEO Bob Iger about Spider-Man and the current Marvel cinematic universe. The emails were dated on October 30th had the two discussing a way to have Spider-Man show up in Captain America: Civil War then have his own trilogy with Sony and Marvel sharing the rights:"Sony Pictures president Doug Belgrad tells Ms. Pascal about a potential scenario that would see Marvel produce a new trilogy of Spider-Man movies while Sony retains 'creative control, marketing and distribution." Unfortunately for you true believers talks once again broke down between the two company's and Marvel has made Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) the "Spider-Man" of the upcoming Civil War storyline. This would be the second time talks broke down between the two company's about Spider-Man. The first being OSCORP Tower was almost in The Avengers skyline back in 2012.

However a "Spidey Summit" will now be held in January to determine what Sony will do with the character after the set back that was The Amazing Spider-Man 2. This summit will include the villain team-up The Sinister Six as well as the female spidey universe film long rumored to be Black Cat.

It seems every time we get to this 6 month stretch of promotion before an Avengers movie a slew of Spider-Man rumors begin popping up from the Sony camp. If some of you don't know currently Marvel Studios does not hold the live-action feature film rights to use our favorite web-slinger n their cinematic universe because Sony owns him. And vice-verses none of the Avengers are allowed to appear in a Spider-Man film.

Well back in 2012 when the first Avengers film and first Amazing Spider-Man reboot films were both debuting Sony approached Marvel Studios to try to digitally add OSCORP Tower into the New York skyline alongside Stark Tower. It never came to pass because it was simply to late in the post-production stage for Marvel to add a new tower into the film but the discussion did indeed take place confirmed by Amazing Spider-Man producer Avi Arad.

Now fast forward to 2013 and the second Amazing Spider-Man film debuted. Now while it was a commercial success as is every Spider-Man film it was panned by critics and fans alike. After this happened Sony moved up their Spider-Man villain movie Sinister Six and pushed back Amazing Spider-Man to presumable 2018 but that is unconfirmed.

Well, it seems Sony may be reaching out to Marvel Studios once again for help to bring their web-slinger into the limelight...allegedly. According to HitFix Sony and Marvel are discussing some way to incorporate Spider-Man into The Avengers universe!

Amazing Spider-Man 2 comes out on Blu-Ray/DVD on August 19, 2014.

Today, Sony released a 'final' trailer for next month's The Amazing Spider-Man 2. But that final trailer has not stopped the marketing at all for this film. Revealed via YouTube's SevenWebHeads, a new photo of Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn/The Green Goblin has been released. Showing off the incomplete (?) costume and revealing a very devious smile. Now I have to say, am I the only one who thinks this Goblin has a striking resemblance to David Bowie? Come on, it's uncanny! Oh yeah, you know he looks like Bowie, even Marc Webb knows that, Dane DeHaan needs to play David Bowie. Get on it Hollywood.

That's right a loop hole has indeed been found in the contract between Sony and Marvel Studios. Now before I get into the specifics let me tell you the problem that ravages our favorite web-slinger appearing alongside Earth's Mightiest Heroes. 

Back in the 90's before Marvel Films was the juggernaut it is now the company was going bankrupt and was selling off potential film rights to all their characters to other film studios. X-Men, Fantastic Four and others went to FOX. Blade over to New Line Cinema. Hulk and Namor over to Universal. And their prized possession Spider-Man over to Sony Pictures. Over the years some of their favorite characters they have reacquired from their contracts expiring ect ect. This includes Punisher, Blade, Ghost Rider and Daredevil!

Now that Daredevil was acquired by Marvel Studios the company has moved forward to introduce him in his own series exclusively on Netflix. Alongside Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. Why is this important well they are all considered "street level" heroes. They battle the mob and gangsters ect.

Now one other "street level" hero is actually Spider-Man! Yes, Sony Pictures owns his film rights currently. The studio have a cinematic universe of their own being built around star Andrew Garfield. But how does this work with Marvel Studios?

Back in 2009 the amazing Sony created show The Spectacular Spider-Man was brought to an end for Marvel's Ultimate Spider-Man to appear on Disney XD.


IGN Reports:

"Sony is NO LONGER involved with The Spectacular Spider-Man. I'm informed that Marvel can now produce the series, but of course, they don't have to." Weisman noted he had "no clue" as to what Sony gained regarding Spider-Man's film rights that they didn't already have that led them to give up the TV rights to the character.

Many assumed that  this simply would mean that the animated rights of Spider-Man was relinquished over to Marvel Studios. But that is not the case...apparently it was ALL TV Rights. Last year Comic Book.com added how Sony doesn't own  any TV rights to Spider-Man:

In some cases, studios apparently own the live action rights to a character, which would cover both movies and live action TV shows, but not animated cartoons. However, in the case of Spider-Man, Disney actually acquired the TV rights back from Sony.

They hypothesized that he could appear on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D given that was the only Marvel show in production that we knew of. Now that Marvel Studios is moving forward  with street level heroes on Netflix its actually possible to have Spider-Man appear on those shows!


This does not mean that Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man will appear on the Netflix shows. If Marvel even uses the character it would most likely be a cameo as Peter Parker with a completely new actor as the web-slinger.

Of course this doesn't mean Marvel will even attempt to enter those uncharted waters with Sony. So don't go assuming Spidey is gonna show up alongside The Defenders on Netflix even though it is possible. Also, this still means Spider-Man can not appear alongside The Avengers on film.

A couple months ago Sony Pictures announced that they will be drastically increasing the Spider-Man Cinematic Universe. Not just the current Amazing Spider-Man storyline but will be adding Venom and The Sinister Six to this cinematic universe.

Now today Variety spoke with Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal about the Spider-Man franchise and she admits they want to release a Spidey universe film once a year:

“We are expanding the ‘Spider-Man’ universe into ‘The Sinister Six’ and ‘Venom,’ so that we have ‘Spider-Man’ movies every year,”

This is along the lines of what Disney is doing with Star Wars. Having the main Episode storyline every other year with spin-offs in between each Episode film.

Last we heard was that Alex Kutzman (Star Trek, Fringe) is in line to write and direct Venom along with collaboration with Roberto Orci. While Daredevil showrunner Drew Goddard is in line to write The Sinister Six.These spin-off films have yet to have a release date though...

Lastly, the report indicates that director Marc Webb will return for The Amazing Spider-Man 3
