Guillermo del Toro maybe hard at work prepping for production on Pacific Rim 2 but many have wondered what ever happened to just Justice League: Dark adaption titled Dark Universe. Word has been very quiet on the Vertigo/DC Comics adaption ever since NBC put into production the Constantine TV series starring Matt Ryan. Last we heard was that del Toro had finished his treatment on the story and was searching for a screenwriter to write the script.

Well while speaking with Forbes the director reveals that the script has indeed been completed and has just been sent to Warner Brothers over the weekend. This just comes mere days after NBC announced that production on Constantine would be halted after 13-episodes and a second season hanging in the balance. Could this actually be the break star Matt Ryan needs to star in Dark Universe as the "Master of the Dark Arts" John Constantine on the big screen? NBC and Warner Brothers could have the series wrap up as prequel leading directly into Guillermo del Toro's Dark Universe.

Even though Dark Universe wasn't on DC Comics most recent film slate it's entirely possible that it will be announced with a slate of Vertigo titles set within the "Vertigo Universe" as suggested by Sandman creator Neil Gaiman. Sandman is another title in the works by actor and director Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

NBC announced several day's ago (via Deadline) that freshmen TV series Constantine based on DC Comics Hellbalzer series will halt all production after 13 episodes. Now while other freshmen NBC shows like Bad Judge and A to Z have officially been cancelled after one season; Constantine still may get a second season! Since the in initial announcement that the season will only run 13-episodes a Twitter campaign with the hashtag #SaveConstantine has sprung up to keep the show alive and supported by star Matt Ryan himself.

Many attributed to the not stellar ratings to the fact NBC has kept the show on a late Friday night time slot and not during primetime. But the show has steadily grown in viewership over it's last several episodes with this past Friday it's highest ever.

Matt Ryan has proven himself as the perfect interpretation of the character and many hoped would one day crossover into the still unannounced Justice League: Dark by Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro.

The question of this day in age in comic film or TV adaptions is are they all connected? Marvel has done it first literally connecting their movies with television and soon netflix shows like Daredevil all into one massive shared universe. So the question remained will DC do the same thing? This is something that has plagued DC fans since Arrow lit up the small screen on The CW. Will Stephen Amell's Arrow ever meet up with Henry Cavill's Superman? Well at this past year's Comic-Con it seemed DC head Geoff Johns put that theory to rest that Arrow & it's spin-off show The Flash are in a separate universe than Henry Cavill and Ben Afflecks Batman & Superman. But was he lying? He was and he wasn't.

Today, Geoff Johns spoke with BuzzFeed to confirm that DC is trying to actual create a cinematic multiverse!

“We look at it as the multiverse. We have our TV universe and our film universe, but they all co-exist. For us, creatively, it’s about allowing everyone to make the best possible product, to tell the best story, to do the best world. Everyone has a vision and you really want to let the visions shine through. I think the characters are iconic enough. I like [Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.] a lot. I love what Marvel does. I’m a huge fan. It’s just a different approach.”

Now for some of you who don't know DC had a multiverse with multiple "earths". That means one superhero may live their whole life in one universe and have a slightly different version on the second earth. Or one superhero maybe one person on Earth-1 but on Earth-2 the mantle is taken up by someone else like Jay Garrick & Barry Allen both being The Flash. And The Flash is the one who first learns of the multiverse....Which is also teased at the end of The Flash pilot episode.

Now if DC can actually pull off doing a multiverse that means while the TV & Film universe are connected they are separate at the same time. What ever happens on film won't dictate what happens on TV and vice-versa. So the writers still have creative freedom and aren't held down by each others contradicting storylines. That is until DC finally pulls out their wild card and does a Crisis on Infinite Earths movie which will have all the universes collide into one another.  But this type of massive movie is obviously far down the line for DC...

So  as far as we know we have the Man of Steel Universe, the Arrow-Verse and last week Sandman creator Neil Gaiman mentions DC has yet to announce a slate of Vertigo Universe movies that are coming out like Sandman or Justice League: Dark which would give us a third universe. It's unknown where Gotham, Constantine, Lucifer, Teen Titans, Supergirl, or Static Shock fit within these universes or others.

Lastly, he adds that maybe one day they will have a crossover but not anytime soon...

"There’s been discussions over the years for both, obviously. You never say never. Maybe one day we’ll link a show to a film if it makes sense, but the creative process we’re going through right now is to let the stuff live and breathe and be its own thing and own it."

"Jim Corrigan is a police officer who kind of takes the law into his own hands… he ends up dying and is reincarnated as The Spectre. So it’s a perfect opportunity for us, because we can name this character Jim Corrigan and within our story, for the general viewer, that works, because now Constantine has a friend on the force." said Constantine Executive producer Daniel Cerone.

Constantine is due to premier on October 24th on NBC.

NBC has released a new image of Matt Ryan looking rather upset in John Constantine's iconic trenchcoat, rumpled suit, and red tie.


Ryan will be joined by Harold Perrineau as Manny, an angel assigned to watch over Constantine, and Charles Halford as Chas Chandler, Constantine's closest friend.

Constantine debuts on October 24th, just a week before Halloween. Spooky.

Today USA Today revealed that upcoming actor Michael James Shaw has joined the cast of NBC's Constantine as famed magical adversity Papa Midnite. The site goes onto say Papa Midnite is "a formidable magical adversary for demon hunter John Constantine"and will hail from New Orleans.

Before episode one even debuts The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Lucy Griffiths (True Blood) has dropped out of the series due to creative differences on her character. She played Liv in the pilot episode who's mysterious father gave her the ability to see the supernatural world. Inside of recasting the role of Liv the showrunners have decided to bring longtime Hellblazer character Zed in as the female lead. She has yet to be cast.

Constantine centers on master of the occult John Constantine (Matt Ryan), who struggles with his faith as he is haunted by the sins of his past and is suddenly thrust into the role of defending humanity from the gathering forces of darkness.

Warner Brothers announced the panels that will fill up Hall H later this month at the San Diego Comic-Con. Some of the films to be at the panel include Mad Max: Fury Road, Jupiter Ascending and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies! But one film that seems to be missing in the massive juggernaut Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice? The only DC Entertainment panels include the already announced DC TV panels which include Arrow, The Flash, Gotham and Constantine! Who knows Zack Snyder may surprise us....

Warner Bros. Entertainment will plant its flag at Comic-Con International: San Diego this year with a huge presence, with each individual division touting its upcoming offerings, including Film, Television, Interactive and Home Entertainment, as well as a variety of product from DC Entertainment, whose celebrations in honor of 75 years of one of the world’s most beloved Super Heroes—Batman—will be in full swing.

Today DC Entertainment and Warner Brothers television announced (via Entertainment Weekly) a massive panel will occur this July 26th for all their upcoming DC Comic shows including The CW's Arrow and Flash. As well as FOX's cop-drama Gotham and NBC's supernatural thriller Constantine.

The pilots for both Gotham and The Flash will be shown in their entirety for the audience. Footage from the pilot of Constantine will be shown as well as teaser footage from Arrow season 3 will be shown during this 3-hour panel.

There will also be time for each shows cast & crew to get a few minutes into speak about each individual show.

Today Neil Marshall director of the pilot episode for NBC's Constantine spoke with Collider today about the series. He reveals that the network has forbid the show creators to allow John Constantine to smoke. This was a trademark of the character in the comics for years but will not be in the show:

Today, a brand new short trailer for NBC's upcoming DC Comics TV Series Constantine was released. Showing some new footage as well as an Easter egg referencing none other than Doctor Fate!


This wouldn't be the first time Doctor Fate has made a live-action appearance as he was also in an episode of Smallville.

Today a slew of television news broke from various networks today. A bunch of full season orders as well as numerous cancellations on certain shows. The CW has already gone ahead and renewed Arrow for several more seasons over a month ago but what about it's spin off The Flash? Well, today The CW announced TV series orders on both The Flash and iZombie!

Lastly, the shows The Carrie Diaries, Star-Crossed and The Tomorrow People have been cancelled! They also have passed on Supernatural: Bloodlines spin-off series based off the characters from Supernatural.

:: THE FLASH ::

Based upon characters published by DC Comics. Through a freak accident, scientist Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) is given the power of super speed, which transforms him into the Fastest Man Alive.

:: iZOMBIE ::

A med student-turned-zombie takes a job in the coroner's office to gain access to the brains she must reluctantly eat to maintain her humanity. But with each brain she consumes, she inherits the corpse's memories. With the help of her medical examiner boss and a police detective, she solves homicide cases in order to quiet the disturbing voices in her head. Based on the characters created by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred, and published by DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint.

Over at NBC they officially ordered a full season on the upcoming David Goyer produced supernatural comic book TV series Constantine (via The Hollywood Reporter) as well as providing a very long plot synopsis:

"Based on the wildly popular comic book series “Hellblazer” from DC Comics, seasoned demon hunter and master of the occult John Constantine (Matt Ryan, “Criminal Minds”) specializes in giving hell… hell. Armed with a ferocious knowledge of the dark arts and his wickedly naughty wit, he fights the good fight — or at least he did. Lastly, after dropping an extended trailer for FOX upcoming Batman prequel series Gotham they have announced a full season order is in place! (via Entertainment Weekly). This is the plot previously released for the show:

It is a friendship that will last them all of their lives, playing a crucial role in helping the young boy eventually become the crusader he’s destined to be. 

GOTHAM is based upon characters published by DC Comics and is produced by Warner Bros. Television. Executive producer Bruno Heller (“The Mentalist”) wrote the pilot, which will be directed and executive-produced by Emmy Award nominee Danny Cannon (the “CSI” series, “Nikita”).

Today we got our very first look at Matt Ryan as John Constantine and he almost looks perfect! Minus the cigarette of course. Production on the pilot began today as well today. The show will debut on NBC this Fall.

Today Deadline announced that several new cast member's have joined Matt Ryan's Constantine TV series. They include Lucy Griffiths as Liv, Harold Perrineau as Manny, and Charles Halford as Chas.

Deadline reports:

"Liv is an offbeat young woman tired of her ordinary life who comes to discover that she has the ability of seeing the supernatural world among us, which makes her a key player in the battle between good and evil. Liv teams up with Constantine to save lives, master her power, and learn more about her late father. Perrineau will play Manny, an authoritative angel assigned to watch over Constantine who has the power to step into other people’s bodies, and although he is meant only to observe, Manny will not hesitate to help out if he can save a life. Halford will play Chas, Constantine’s oldest friend and staunch companion who possesses powerful survival skills that might possibly be supernatural."

This is a bit unexpected. NBC is currently hard at work getting the new series Constantine ready. With a casting call even going out in Atlanta for some roles on the show according to TV Show Auditions. Not much was in the report beside that it also mentions WB and DC are also in the development stage for a sequel to the 2005 Constantine film? That originally stared Keanu Reeves:

In addition to the TV series pilot, Warner Bro's Pictures and DC Entertainment are in the development stages for the feature film Constantine 2

Now I have absolutely no idea how legitimate this is. So get your salt shakers out. The only questions that raise is "Why?" and "What does this mean for Justice League: Dark?" Until we get more information through this up as another rumor...Even though this is the first time we heard anything about it.

A few days we got our brand new John Constantine in actor Matt Ryan. Well, today Bleeding Cool got a small tidbit about an advisory that Constantine will face multiple times throughout the entire series. Many Hellblazer fans will know him as Papa Midnite!

"Introduced in the pilot, with a subplot providing him a kind of origin, is the character of Papa Midnite. As the series runs on, we’ll see Midnite and Constantine facing off again and again, as the stakes get higher and higher."

Deadline TV announced today that actor Matt Ryan (Criminal Minds, Assassin Creed: Black Flag) has nabbed the lead in NBC's upcoming supernatural thriller Constantine. He will play the blonde, smoking, English magician of the DC Universe.

John Constantine is described as a working class Londoner with rakish good looks, scruffy blonde hair, deadpan humor, and signature trench coat, who has been studying the dark arts since he was a teenager. When the daughter of a late friend, is targeted by demons, Constantine steps in to save her.

The show will be headlined by David S. Goyer (Man of Steel) and Daniel Cerone (The Mentalist) 

Take a breathe of relief you Constantine fans. We know none of you were particularly happy with Keanu Reeves take on the character. One not being blonde and the other not being British. Fret not! The guys over at Bleeding Cool confirmed that the actor may not be technically English but Constantine will be blonde and have a British accent:

"[He Will] be a Londoner, and he’s going to talk with his accent."

Still kinda hoping Kiefer Sutherland got to do the role being technically English even though he grew up in Canada. He is Blonde, can fake a English accent (Watch The Three Musketeers 1993), and he is simply a badass so why not?!

After NBC last week announced that Constantine will have a pilot it now has a director! English Horror director Neil Marshall (The Descent, Game of Thrones) has signed onto direct the pilot for NBC.
