Channing Tatum Has Been Dying To Play 'Gambit' Since 'X-Men: The Last Stand'

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter actor Channing Tatum once again reiterates his love for the Raging Cajun. He goes onto reveal that he hasn't "signed the dotted lines" on the X-Men contract but is on the 1-Yard line. I guess he doesn't know X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner confirmed him herself on the X-Men: Days of Future Past red carpet last week:

In a separate interview with GQ Magazine Tatum actually reveals that he was up for Gambit in Brett Ratner's X-Men: The Last Stand but the character was written out of the script. He was also interested when Gambit was announced for X-Men Origins: Wolverine but by then he was to busy on G.I.Joe: Rise of Cobra that he simply didn't have the time and the role ended up going to Taylor Kistch. He adds:
“We’re talking about it. I’m proactively sort of going after it. And I feel bad, because I really love Taylor Kitsch as an actor and what he did with the part, but you know, you’ve got the things that you would really love to do and see.”
I guess it's a good thing he wasn't Gambit back in 2006. He was not the actor that he is today as well as Brett Ratner would have probably killed off his character. Can't say he isn't committed though....

Gambit will be seen in X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016
