SDCC'14: First WARCRAFT Footage Screened, Motion Title Card Revealed

Plot points and anything from this film is being kept closely under wraps. We don't really know anything about the film and it started principal photography a few months ago surprisingly. However, today some footage was screened at comic con. Whilst it's not detailed, there's a few tid bits there that can give us an idea of what to expect from the movie. ScreenRant was able to give a brief description...

"The Warcraft teaser that followed was narrated by both a human and an Orc from the film (each seemed to be reading from their war diaries), indicating that the movie will very much examine what leads to the conflict between the two races from both of their perspectives (think Dawn of the Planet of the Apes).

While most of the footage was focused on depicting the various environments and landscapes of Azeroth, there was also some material teasing actual battle sequences involving the two clans. The CGI Orcs are clearly far from being finished, so it remains to be seen how good their physical design will look once they’ve been fully-rendered."

Whilst there was not much revealed, could this movie be the next Lord of the Rings? That remains to be seen but here's the motion title card that was revealed today:

That's A Wrap! 'Warcraft' Completes Principle Photography

Last night director Duncan Jones revealed via his Twitter that his epic fantasy epic Warcraft (Based on the MMO World of Warcraft) will complete filming today! The film has been filming for several months with almost zero set photo leaks. Seems to be a very CGI heavy film used more on back-lots instead of out in the open. Never-the-less filming has now come to a close.
First footage is expected to hit at San Diego Comic-Con this July. They may even bring some more reveals at BlizzCon 2014 this November.

Also, if you are unaware the first film is expected to only feature the two factions Orc and Human races.

First Footage for 'Warcraft To Debut at San Diego Comic-Con

Today, IGN spoke with producer Thomas Tull about the upcoming video game adaptation Warcraft. He first talks about why video game movies have failed over the years:
“Doing a videogame movie has not really been done well, and I think part of the reason for that is it’s been done for the wrong reasons. If you simply say ‘How many people have played the game? How much money can we make?’ You’re doomed. You’re doomed right off the start. Bringing a filmmaker like Duncan [Jones] onboard to distill that and bring the incredible cast onboard that he was able to get… we hope that when you see the first trailer for it, you’re going to say ‘OK, this is not what I was expecting.’ He’s an incredibly exciting filmmaker.”
He goes onto confirm the very first footage for this epic will debut this summer at the San Diego Comic-Con:
“We show up every summer at Comic-Con – we really enjoy it, and the fans seem to enjoy taking a look at things, so I wouldn’t be surprised.”

'World of Warcraft' Movie Pushed Far Far Away

Ever since Disney announced that Star Wars: Episode VII was hitting December 18th, 2015 many have wondered....what will happen to Duncan Jones Warcraft film? Well today we got our answer. They are staying clear of the Star Wars behemoth and pushing their release date Far Far Away. Warcraft has moved from December 18th, 2015 all the way until March 11th, 2016.
This most likely has pissed off the Warcraft camp given they most likely wanted Winter 2015 season due to the high success of The Hobbit films. Now it will come out in one of the dump months for films 'March'.

Today was the first day of BlizzCon 2013 and showcased many of the new titles like Diablo and World of Warcraft. They also went onto showcase come of the first conceptual artwork for the upcoming Warcraft movie! Also had a bit of a discussion on the film revealing some new info. The panel included Director Duncan Jones and Blizzards Rob Pardo, Chris Metzen and Nick Carpenter:
    The Plot -
As far as plot will be a"origin story" about the "first contact" between Orcs and humans, and will include characters Lothar and Durotan from Warcraft II.

Originally it was just gonna focus on the Alliance but now added a secondary storyline for the Horde. Jones added "being a hero no matter what side you're on. You have to be as empathetic for Orc heroes and their situation and why they're doing what they're doing as you are about anyone,"

When asked about if Jones has an idea for the cast he said "Yup. Sure do." He added that they are shooting for a hard PG-13 rating also like The Dark Night.

Duncan Jones' WARCRAFT Finds Its Star In Travis Fimmel

    Last night on Channel 9 here in Australia, I was pleased to watch Duncan Jones' brilliant film, Moon. The film starred Sam Rockwell and it was, and still is, my favourite space related movie of this century.  But enough about the past, let us move to the future. Variety reports that the star of The History Channels' Vikings, Travis Fimmel has been cast in the lead role in the highly anticipated film adaptation of the popular video game. I haven't seen Vikings, so I can't really have any say on this casting, but the dude looks masculine? If that's a good thing? I don't really know, but the word around the web is that he's a decent actor. Here's the report from Variety;

After a lengthy search, Legendary Entertainment has found its leading man for the upcoming adaptation of “Warcraft,” tapping Travis Fimmel to star. No formal offer has been presented yet but sources say he is their guy for one of the four leads in the film. Fimmel is the star of History Channel’s “Vikings,” which is currently in production on season two
So with this piece of potential casting news, are you excited for Duncan Jones' Warcraft? After two awesome films to his name (Source Code & Moon) I find it hard to believe anyone doesn't have faith in the very talented young man. Now all we need is Sam Rockwell to join the cast, and I'll be there midnight.
