Last we heard a slew of names were attached to the Masters of the Universe project after G.I.Joe director Jon M. Chu left it for Jem and the Holograms project. Well, the first list of names attached were first reported by Schmoes Know. That list went on to be debunked by The Wrap when a new list of names appeared including Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow in contention.

Now, Schmoes Know is back with another supposed scoop. Again these guys have been hits and misses when it comes to scoops but still may be true. According to their soruce it seems Jeff Wadlow has signed onto direct Masters of the Universe! What does this mean for Kick-Ass 3 or X-Force remains to be seen....

Until a final confirmation comes through the trade websites take this with a grain of salt....

:: UPDATE :: -  The Hollywood Reporter has gone onto semi-confirm semi-deny the report above. Wadlow has signed on to simple rewrite the Masters of the Universe script but directing is still a possibility though not confirmed.

A few months ago we heard that Jon M. Chu had left the Masters of the Universe project for G.I.Joe 3. They Schmoes Know dropped a list of a couple names of directors that may take over including Joe Cornish and Rain Johnson amongst others. Now Variety's Justin Kroll says that Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow and Another Earth director Mike Cahill have been added to that list:

Lest we forget Jeff Wadlow is also hard at work writing and possibly director X-Force over at FOX so maybe already unavailable.

Right after we posted this story from Variety the guys over at The Wrap added more names to the list of directors for Masters of the Universe. Which include Harald Zwart and Chris McKay.

Last week G.I.Joe director Jon M. Chu announced he would be leaving the Masters of the Universe reboot. This made many to believe that the film was once again in development hell. Well today Schmoes Know announced a shortlist of directors being considered for the reboot!


These are some pretty great replacements. They include Joe Cornish (Attack the Block), Rian Johnson (Looper), Andy Muschietti (Mama), Kirk DeMicco & Chris Sanders (The Croods) and Phil Lord and Chris Miller (21 Jump Street)

During his press junket for his recent movie Justin Beiber Believe director Jon M. Chu talks about his departure from the Masters of the Universe reboot via Collider:

"It was timing. We did so much for Masters, and the script is awesome. I love that project. I would have loved to do it. The problem with Joe is that we have a specific timeline and I need to be on that timeline. Masters wasn’t ready to go, at that moment. And I have a loyalty to G.I. Joe. I don’t feel like I’ve fulfilled the promise I gave, to bring everything I love about Joe to the script. I feel like we did a lot of foundational stuff. We cleared the way. We brought the movie back to life, but at the same time, there’s so much more to do, to make it even better. I learned a lot on the last one, and I want to put that into practice and make this one even better, and make it have life for many, many movies in the future, whether I’m doing them or not."

Now who would want to see pick up the Masters of the Universe gritty reboot?!
