Episode 7 Gotham "Penguin's Umbrella" Review

Episode seven in this first season of the ratings juggernaut that is “Gotham” hits it completely out of the stratosphere. You simply cannot take your eyes off this episode, with so many amazing twists and turns that take place throughout this hour long serial. You really get the sense that this is what this show is finally all about. The writers, actors, director and everyone involved with this episode are working in spades, and you simply cannot get enough.

Robin Lord Taylor is perfect, and I mean perfect as Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin and once it is revealed how he has been working for Falcone this entire time and you finally pick your jaw up off the floor, you want to flash forward to the next episode in this wonderful installment that shows the beginning of Bruce Wayne and Jim Gordon.

The real stand out in this episode other than the usual heavy hitters that we see like Gordon, Bullock and Falcone is The Penguin. Robin Lord is simply amazing, and not enough can be said about his potrayal of this seemingly half-witted character. But the real significance of this episode, is that Oswald has been playing everyone and has been slowly rising to the very top of the Gotham underworld. The ending of this episode is so good that you think you are watching a mid-season finale or season finale with everything that happens throughout.

The shootout at the GCPD between Gordon and Zsasz may not feel believable, but the dramatic effect is still a gut punch, and when Gordon goes for broke in trying to arrest Falcone the episode hits a fever pitch.

The beginning of this season started off quite slow, but this episode hits on every mark, from the drama all the way to the action.

    A+
