Sony Pictures Developing a 'Super Mario' Animated Movie Alongside 'Sonic the Hedgehog'

In all the chaos regarding Sony and what is happening to their big films like James Bond, Spider-Man and Steve Jobs biopic a new smaller film seems to be in the works from them. The Amazing Spider-Man producer Avi Arad in October sent Sony head Amy Pascal an email confirming they have gotten the license from Nintendo to develop a Super Mario Brothers animated film
“I am the proud father of Mario the animated film,” Arad then forwarded Pascal separate images of him with Mario Bros. creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata, the latter of which included the message, “Happy CEO, lets get together, it’s the mother load.”
The two they suggest Hotel Transylvania director Genndy Tartakovsky to helm the movie but he is as-of-yet not involved in the project says BuzzFeed. This comes after the recently announced Sonic the Hedgehog animated movie was announced also at Sony. Could a Sonic vs Mario crossover happen in the not to distant future? Seems very possible now...But again the studio just got the rights to the character no script or director is in place as of yet.
