Episode 6 'Spirt of the Goat' Gotham Review

“Spirit of the Goat” was another one of those odd episodes of “Gotham” that simply does not work on a cohesive narrative level at all. The episode is bizarre and at times very strange, and really doesn't service the overall plot of the first season at all. Sure there are moments of some fun and intrigue but overall, episode six really takes a step backward from the overall gains of the first season.

However, with that being said, the moment that Gordon becomes a suspect and is arrested by Montoya and that twist at the end really salvaged this overall episode. That ending really not only made you excited to see what will happen within the confines of the next episode, it also made you excited what will happen in the confines of the remainder of the season.

Thankfully, the Penguin made an amazing and thrilling piece of television with his surprise visit at the end of the episode. Robin Lord Taylor's portrayal of the dastardly Penguin is by far the best live action version of the character. He is so fantastic in every aspect from not just his look, or his mannerisms. But, even the way that he delivers those snotty one liners and or subtly announces his motivations to a select few. Taylor is making you forget about Burgess Meredith and Danny DeVito and their versions of the Penguin.

Other than that amazing ending, episode six is pretty forgettable. Not only was the main investigation pretty dull and unexciting, but just the overall plot just didn't add up at times either.
