“The Amazing Spider-Man 2” has one good thing going for it and that is the love story between Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker. The love between these two characters is strong and powerful, and you root for these two throughout the entire flick. The chemistry between Garfield and Emma Stone is real, powerful, and strong, and maybe it has something to do with their real life love for each other as well.
Unfortunately, this is the only good thing that “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” has going for it. Jamie Foxx as Electro is such a waste, with his campy one liners and his over the top performance as Max Dillion. I am still unsure as to why and what Dillion's motivation for being evil was? Just because Spider-Man forgot who you were, you want to become this evil villain who wants to destroy all New York City?
Director Marc Webb does a fine job with the love story that is being told in this film, you really get the sense that great care was taken in getting that perfect, and those are some really strong and powerful moments that are played throughout the entirety of this film.
However, with that being said the movie crawls throughout the first two hours. This movie is not thrilling at all, it feels as though the movie was just a bunch of scenes that were just tossed together in the editing room with absolutely no purpose in telling a compelling narrative.
It is still confusing as why Webb chose to use Electro as the main villain as he serviced nothing for the plot of the movie. Dane DeHaan's portrayal of Harry Osborn was strong and powerful, however his look as the Green Goblin was horrendous. The look was a cross between Billy Idol and a pre-teen girl. The only thing that was enjoyable about his performance as the Green Goblin was his laugh which was menacing and scary, other than that this Green Goblin was just another waste that made “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” not so amazing.
