Today Varitey added several names to the shortlist of actors in the running for the lead in Star Wars: Episode VII. They include already known candidate Breaking Bad Jesse Pleamons, Downtown Abby's Ed Speleers as well as Attack the Block star John Boyega. Several theater actors were also being looked at.
They will join Adam Driver who is currently the only cast member announced to date.Abrams also is looking to have unknown or up-and-coming actors in the leads with more famous actors in supporting roles which include the original three Hamill, Fisher and Ford.
JJ Abrams also is hard struck on having a diverse cast which is why Boyega is in the running with otehr actors like Michael B. Jordan screen testing late last year.
Also, since the rewrite it seems the children of the original three will be in supporting roles instead of the leads. With filming beginning in April more casting should come very soon.
