Well this is shocking. It seems Vin Diesel may have played cat and mouse with Marvel Studios with his Facebook posts from last year. Late last year Vin Diesel took to his Facebook fan page and posted a status that Marvel had quested a meeting with him. We all remember this fondly. He eventually went onto be cast as the voice of Groot in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.
Well according to a rumor by Bleeding Cool he never actually asked by Marvel Studios to part take in a meeting. But after the positive response that came with this fake status Marvel went ahead and spoke with him after Comic-Con:
There was much commotion, the post was taken down and people wondered what was going on. He then posted about a follow up meeting.Even if Marvel didn't request to meet with Vin Diesel initially it ended up happening and we found our Groot!
The truth? Vin Diesel had made it up. That’s according to this Marvel Comics exec. They told me that Marvel had not requested an initial meeting, Vin Diesel was just playing around with social media and may not have realised the geekstorm that his words may have caused. And the voice of Groot had not been cast.
However Marvel noticed the geekstorm. Had a few words. And had a meeting. Found him Groot. And the rest is history.
