A couple months ago many news websites (this one included) got word that Disney wanted to pursue rising star Benedict Cumberbatch for Star Wars Episode VII. This comes after the widely successful Star Trek film Star Trek into Darkness which was directed by JJ Abrams. The reason almost no websites ran the story and it popped up on a no-name website was because none of us could verify its authenticity. All we got was there was talks...that's it.
Now a new rumor has hit that suggest it was all a smokescreen from Disney. They planted this juicy rumor to keep you away from their true intentions. According to The Daily Superhero sources Disney actually wants Cumberbatch in a Marvel Studios film not a Lucasfilm movie. This potentially could be huge news depending on who he might get cast as.
This is also the same source that mentioned in October 2012 that Bradley Cooper was on Disneys radar for a future film which ended up being Rocket Raccoon in Guardians of the Galaxy. So this source has been correct in the past.
Now who could Cumberbatch play? Of course now that he is also the evil dragon Smaug in the recent Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug film and Khan in Star Trek into Darkness many typecast him as a villain.....but others have mentioned Doctor Strange?! Which is most likely in Marvels Phase III plans!
Of course with all rumors take with a grain of salt until an official announcement is made by Disney....
