RUMOR: 2016's 'Star Wars' Spin-Off Could Be a 'Suicide Squad Meets Ocean's Eleven' Heist Movie

Today, it was recently announced that the very first trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens will debut this Thanksgiving weekend. Now SlashFilm has dropped a tiny scoop regarding the next Star Wars spin-off film set to debut in 2016 with Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) attached to direct. Now while they couldn't confirm what they heard 100% they do give us the details anyway but again take with a pinch of salt.

They claim the first spin-off film will be set right before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope and will have the Rebel Alliance hire a team of mercenary's (Presumably including Boba Fett) to steal the blueprint's to the very first Death Star. They of course would indeed need this information to allow Luke to destroy the battle station in A New Hope later on. So think Suicide Squad meets Ocean's Eleven set within the Star Wars Universe! That is pretty exciting....even if this is just a rumor at this point.

They go onto say that the Millennium Falcon will indeed play a part in the film but Han Solo will not. Presumably his craft could be under control of Jaba the Hutt or even Lando Calrissian but it's unknown how that will fit into the story. They also lastly state that a new character introduced in The Force Awakens (which takes place after the original trilogy) will play a part in this spin-off. Which would make that character in their 70's or 80's in The Force Awakens.

This is all fun and nice but again it's just a rumor at this point. Of course this does line-up with the long stated rumor that the first Star Wars spin-off would focus on Boba Fett...but at least now he will have some company.
