In their lengthy interview from the set of The Avengers: Age of Ultron the magazine Entertainment Weekly spoke with Tony Stark himself Robert Downey Jr. about returning for yet another Iron Man sequel in a possible Iron Man 4. Robert sounded very optimistic as well as a little possessive of the character he brought to life:
“It’s down to Kevin Feige and Ike Perlmutter and Disney to come to us with what the proposal is, and that’s on us to agree or disagree. When things are going great, there’s a lot of agreement. It’s that thing of: why give up the belt when it feels like you can barely get jabbed? Most people are saying that right when they get knocked out."The idea of Robert Downey Jr passing the role off to another actor came about when he got hurt on the set of Iron Man 3 and he wasn't sure he would want to return again due to his age. Of course it also stemed from his new contract he signed with Marvel where he is only set to appear in The Avengers 2 & 3 with no Iron Man sequel even mentioned.
But after getting back into the role in the new Avengers film maybe Robert Downey Jr. feels great once again. I mean if Harrison Ford can get an injury on Star Wars: Episode VII and come back I'm sure Downey Jr can bounce back!
