Director Joss Whedon Trashes Zak Penns Original 'Avengers' Screenplay

A new biography recounting the life of director and cult icon Joss Whedon is coming out August 1st titled simply Joss Whedon: The Biography by author Amy Pascale. In the biography it is revealed that Joss Whedon hated Disney and Marvel original Avengers screenplay they wanted him to direct. The original script was penned by longtime Marvel screenwriter Zak Penn who also penned such comic book movies such as Elektra and X-Men: The Last Stand. Joss Whedon at the time told Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige he refuses to film a single word from Penn's script. "There was a script. There just wasn't a script I was going to film a word of." Whedon went onto to say "I don't think you have anything, You need to pretend this draft never happened.”

Of course Joss Whedon came on board to completely re-write the script from scratch but still giving Zak Penn story credit. The rewritten script was so great even the cast and crew ended up completely loving. As Agent Coulson himself Clark Gregg went onto tell Pascale:
“[The script] was funny and still tongue-in-cheek and really got the tone, the Tony Stark tone of the Marvel universe, and still furthered and explored each one of those characters and those relationships. I found out later from other people involved that had the same reaction—like,  oh, wow. Oh, wow. Everybody gets to play. Everybody gets to play, and it’s going to be better than anything we reasonably hoped for.”
The movie has since become a global phenomenon becoming the third highest ranking film of all time and the rest is history.
