It's been months since heard anything about Deadpool. The R-Rated X-Men film that was announced back in 2009 after the character was butchered in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. He has since been given an almost perfect script by the due behind Zombieland Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Which was eventually leaked online and met with fan praise. Then star Ryan Reynolds in 2012 made a test footage trailer for the movie to show off what it would be like and has been shown to only a select few...then there was complete silence on the project.
Now Collider sat down and spoke with long time X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner who agrees that Deadpool has a great script and needs to be made! She also agreed it needs to be R rated:
“First of all. The Deadpool movie should be $50m in any event, whether it is PG-13 or R. Because it’s a single character, it doesn’t involve that many of the other mutants, which means not many other powers, which is CGI, which is what costs so much. It would be a lot of action, but it should be — and because it’s a standalone character, just like the Wolverine films, we keep them at a smaller budget, so it should be a $50m budget regardless. And I am a producer who NEVER discusses her budgets, EVER, ever ever. But that one should be kept small. As for the rest of it, I can’t really talk about it. I’d love to take the movie, it’s a really good script, we’ll see.”Honestly, this isn't much more then what Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick told us back when G.I.Joe Retaliation came out. The real question is if the studio never moves ahead with an R-Rated superhero film...will they at least release the test footage for us to swoon over?!
At least we may get him possibly in Jeff Wadlow's X-Force....
