Today Deadline announced with confidence that Will Smith will met with the studio soon to drop out of Independence Day 2. This comes after a very long back-and-forth negotiation of the studio trying to bring him back. Director Roland Emmerich with Amazing Spider-Man scribe James Vanderbilt have two very different scripts for Independence Day 2. One with Will Smith and one without Smith. Obviously they will go with the latter script since he is leaving the project that made him famous. Its still expected to hit in July 2016. 20 years after the original hit.
At the bottom of their article it also stated that Will Smith won't return for Men in Black 4 and that Sony Pictures are looking to reboot the franchise.
